Ardencaple Boys Club have great pride in announcing the appointment of Walter Smith as our Honorary Club President.
Walter and his family have lived in Helensburgh for well over 20 years and both of his sons enjoyed spells with Caple in their earlier playing days.
We are very grateful that Walter has agreed to accept this position and to build upon the relationship that we already enjoy with him.
He recently attended an event at Hermitage Academy to meet with and have his photograph taken with our various ‘player of the year’ prize-winners.
He could not have been more generous with his time and stayed behind afterwards to chat with coaches, players and parents alike, going out of his way to ensure that he satisfied every single request for his autograph or to sign memorabilia.
Ardencaple Boys Club has supported the local community for more than 40 years since it was established in 1968 and currently operates teams from 7-year-olds to 15-year-olds.
We have also introduced girls’ football over the past two seasons for girls born in 1997 and 1998 and we were the very first club in the region to be awarded the highly prestigious SFA Quality Mark.
The club relies upon the continued support from its much valued sponsors and was especially pleased that a recent article in The Helensburgh Advertiser sparked fresh interest from yet another local firm who stepped forward to very kindly offer funding for new kit.
Photos of the prize giving can be found in the photo gallery.
Would moving kids' football to a summer game help improve the development of young footballers?
Yes - better pitches mean a better chance to develop technique/skills
No - wouldn't make any real difference to development
Maybe - but I'd be worried about more injuries on firm pitches
